The Coffee Kitchen, as the name implies, started out with a focus on providing great coffee to the people of Cockermouth in Cumbria. But, as the company has grown, the baking of fresh bread has become equally important to the success of the business. So, to increase production and improve the quality of its bread, the company elected to install a Tom Chandley Compacta oven.
Now, every working day, bread is freshly baked on the Coffee Kitchen’s dedicated bakery premises in Market Place, Cockermouth using its Tom Chandley 3-2-8 Compacta oven.
Being actively involved with ‘The Real Bread’ campaign, The Coffee Kitchen prides itself on its daily production of real bread. According to the campaign, real bread is defined as that made without the use of processing aids or any other artificial additives. The baked produce from The Coffee Kitchen therefore does not include additives and is made with organic stone-milled flour from a local supplier. The company bakes a wide range of goods for customers, from tin loaves and sourdough, to scones and croissants.
Owner and Manager of The Coffee Kitchen, Andy Walsh, was familiar with Tom Chandley as an established UK supplier of ovens but had never used one before the Compacta was installed. Andy visited the test bakery at Tom Chandley’s factory in Manchester – an option that Tom Chandley offers all its customers, including makers, research and development departments and supermarket chains. As ever, the smooth, efficient installation of the oven has been followed by the successful, reliable bread production for which Tom Chandley ovens are well known.
Looking to the future, The Coffee Kitchen is positive about the company’s potential for growth, thanks to its increased production capacity. The prospect of supplying restaurants and hotels in the local area is one potential development and increasing production capacity further will be instrumental in this. Andy comments “Our Tom Chandley Compacta oven is simple to operate and so far has proved to be very reliable. We’re very pleased with it”.
